Spinal cord regeneration.  Tony Award-winning plays.  Supercomputers reconnecting hurricane victims.  Community health clinics run by medical students. Engineering of earthquake-safe bridges.

There’s no question that an outstanding institution such as University of California, San Diego contributes prestige, vibrancy and economic prosperity to a region, while providing broad access to intellectual capital.

Yet with higher education’s share of state revenue declining each year, UCSD must increasingly rely on financial support from alumni, parents and friends to provide the margin of excellence for our students, faculty and research programs. UCSD’s annual revenues are $1.9 billion – 33% of this total is from the federal government for research;  only 14% is from the State of California.

Your gifts will make an important difference to the students and faculty at UCSD, including:

  • Private graduate fellowships to help our university maintain stellar rankings among the nation's top 10 graduate programs;
  • Privately funded scholarships to open our doors to exceptional undergraduate students who otherwise could not afford a university education;
  • Privately funded endowed chairs to enable us to recruit and retain world-class faculty;
  • And private support for innovation funds to enable UCSD the freedom to address change and opportunity, while remaining true to our mission.

Campaign gifts have already funded a variety of needs ranging from scholarships to help the best and brightest students attend UCSD, to more than 50 endowed chairs established to support and retain outstanding faculty in specialized and interdisciplinary areas of study throughout the university.  Contributions to The Campaign for UCSD fund-raising initiative have also enabled the university to establish two new professional schools – pharmacy and management – as well as fund a long list of research and health initiatives.
