The 2008-2009 financial crisis wreaked havoc not only on balance sheets and income statements, but also on economic theories and policies. What economic beliefs have withstood the stress-test of the crisis and which ones need rethinking? Why is there such a wide disagreement among economists about future economic growth and inflation? What new policies are coming down the pike? Should we be concerned about the Fed’s increasing regulatory role in US financial markets? We will try to answer some of these questions by summarizing the recent research.
Rossen Valkanov is an associate professor of finance in the Rady School of Management. Dr. Valkanov received his Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University. His main research interests are in the areas of financial econometrics, empirical asset pricing, portfolio choice and monetary economics.
