Chancellor's Associates Program Changes:
Other Frequently Asked Questions:
Effective July 1, 2011, the new Chancellor's Associates minimum giving level will become $2,500 and the Chancellor's Associates $1,500 Innovator’s Circle will be discontinued. Donor benefits and services are also being re-aligned for each giving level and new privileges are being added. You can view a chart of the new giving levels and corresponding privileges here. Donors who are currently part of the $1,500 Innovator’s Circle will have the opportunity to renew at that level for one more year. For example:
Joe Triton is a $1,500 Chancellor's Associates donor through August 2011. In August, he will have the choice to upgrade his gift to the $2,500 level or renew one more time at the $1,500 Innovator’s Circle level. If he decides to renew at the $1,500 level, he will receive his current privileges—including a parking pass—for one more year. In August 2012, he will have to upgrade to the $2,500 to remain part of Chancellor's Associates. If he decides to renew at the $1,500 level in August 2012 he will become part of the Chancellor's Club.
Chancellor's Associates giving levels have remained unchanged at UC San Diego for nearly 25 years. Yet, in that time, state support for higher education has plummeted and less than 10 percent of the university's budget currently comes from the state. If we are to maintain and build on the excellence that we have created over the past half-century, UC San Diego needs the sustained support of its most loyal donors. By increasing the minimum giving level to $2,500, Chancellor's Associates will be able to provide the chancellor with even more flexibility to act on UC San Diego's greatest priorities and most urgent needs.
Current Chancellor's Associates donors at the $1,500 Innovator’s Circle level will receive a 2011-2012 parking permit. The permits were mailed out the last week of June. After July 1, 2011 parking permits will be only be given out to new donors who give at the $2,500 Scholar's Circle level and above. Donors who do not give at the $2,500 level will not receive a parking permit, but they will be provided with complimentary parking for all Chancellor's Associates events. This will ensure that all donors will still enjoy access to the unique events that make the program so special.
The Chancellor's Club comprises friends of UC San Diego who make an annual gift of $1,500. Like Chancellor's Associates, their unrestricted gifts provide the chancellor with the flexibility to act on UC San Diego’s greatest needs and most urgent priorities. Chancellor's Club donors also have access to unique courtesies and privileges.
Chancellor's Associates Young Alumni (CAYA) giving levels will remain the same and are as follows:
| $1000 |
Alumni 8-9 years post graduation |
| $750 |
Alumni 5-7 years post graduation |
| $500 |
Alumni 1-4 years post graduation |
| $350 |
Senior Class Gift/CAYA |
Current CAYA donors (alumni who have made a gift prior to June 30, 2011) will receive a 2011-2012 parking permit. The permits are being mailed out the last week of June. Under the new program model, CAYA donors will no longer receive a parking permit but they will receive complimentary parking for any Chancellor's Associates events they have been invited to attend. See a full list of CAYA privileges (PDF).
In accordance with IRS regulations, the estimated average fair market value of privileges received at each giving level can be found here. A gift in excess of this amount is deductible as a charitable contribution. Your gift is fully tax deductible if you decline to receive benefits. If you wish to decline benefits, please notify our office when you make your gift.
Your complimentary, occasional-use parking permit is valid in parking spots marked “A,” “B” and “S” on the UC San Diego campus, Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the La Jolla and Hillcrest Medical Center. In addition, the permit is valid in metered parking spaces and in the Faculty Club parking spaces on the main campus.
Be sure to hang the permit on the rear-view mirror or place it on the driver’s side dash. Parking permits are non-transferable and are distributed to current Chancellor's Associates donors in late June every year. New donors receive their permits when they first make a Chancellor's Associates gift at the $2,500 level or above.
Chancellor's Associates donors who give at the $2,500 level or above can audit UC San Diego classes at no charge. If you are interested in doing so, call our office with the class and professor's name, course number, and your date and time preferences, and we will make arrangements for you. Please note that auditing certain classes requires a professor’s permission, so approval to participate is not always guaranteed.
In our efforts to help ensure that your involvement with Chancellor's Associates does not lapse, our office mails out three renewal reminders to all donors. You will receive these notices four months prior, two months prior and the month of the expiration date listed on your Chancellor's Associates donor card. You may renew your gift at any time and for more than one year by contacting our office or making your gift online.
We encourage you to bring guests to all Chancellor's Associates events to experience what the program has to offer. Or you can call or email us with the name of the person you would like to refer, and we would be happy to contact them. As a general resource you can always direct them to our website at http://chancellorsassociates.ucsd.edu. The site provides an overview of the program and a list of donor courtesies and services, as well as our event calendar.
