Thank you: Triton Track and Field Improvements

Thanks to generous donors including alumni, students, parents and friends, the Triton Track and Field Stadium has received several updates, helping to position the facility among the top in the nation.

With gifts from generous donors, a video scoreboard was recently installed in Triton Track and Field Stadium. The electronic scoreboard allows race results to be viewed immediately during meets—of key importance to track and field athletes and spectators. The new electronic scoreboard increases UC San Diego’s chances of hosting major events, including NCAA championships.

In addition, the family, friends and fellow students of late UC San Diego pole vaulter Leon T. Roach III came together to build a memorial for their friend and son. The picturesque Leon T. Roach Pole Vault Terraces offer spectators an opportunity to get an up close view of pole vault competitions. Read more here.

“Our thanks go out to our alumni, parents and friends,” said men’s track and field coach, Tony Salerno. “With the completion of the terraces and video board, UC San Diego certainly ranks among the top track and field facilities in the nation.”

Yet, there is still more to be done to enhance Track and Field Stadium, which has yet to undergo major renovations since its completion more than two decades ago. To make a difference, please click here to make a gift to the Track and Field Facilities Fund.
