Chancellor's Message

Recently, UC San Diego was recognized in U.S. News & World Report’s 2010 edition of America’s Best Graduate Schools. The School of Medicine is ranked 15th out of the nation’s 120 research-intensive medical school programs. In addition, 36 other schools, departments and programs at UC San Diego were recognized, including bioengineering, neurosciences, political science and psychology. These rankings reflect excellence across a broad range of academic disciplines and are due, in large part, to our incredible faculty.

UC San Diego’s award-winning faculty include scientists and scholars at the forefront of their fields with an impressive track record for achieving scientific, medical and technological breakthroughs. Some of these achievements include the first in utero surgery in Southern California to save the life of unborn twins; the first-of-its-kind computer chip that acts as a miniature electronic satellite dish; and the first study to examine the phenomenon that obesity is “socially contagious.” We are also the first university to establish an institution devoted to advancing technologies to conserve works of art, buildings, monuments and archaeological sites.

Thanks to the contributions of our stellar faculty, UC San Diego is one of the world’s leading academic and research institutions. We are extremely fortunate to have them on campus, and to have the generous university friends who support them.

Warm Wishes,

Marye Anne Fox
Chancellor
