The Environment: Scientists at the world renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography are pioneers in climate change science and the first to precisely measure greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Today, Scripps is involved with sustainability efforts, along with many other campus areas including the Jacobs School of Engineering, and the Divisions of Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences. To underscore our commitment to reducing the university’s carbon footprint and encouraging a conservation ethic, UC San Diego recently established a sustainable energy program, which will enable the campus to generate 10 to 15 percent of its annual electrical needs.

Healthcare:UC San Diego is one of the nation’s leading institutions for medical research and patient care. Our Medical Center is recognized for its clinical and research excellence in a wide range of medical specialties, including cancer care, orthopedics, respiratory care and gynecology—which has helped transform San Diego into a regional hub for high-quality, specialized care. Our Health Sciences Division is focusing efforts on the advancement of patient care, the recruitment of stellar faculty and development of new programs to expand clinical services.

Global Leadership: China’s Shanghai Jiao Tong University ranks UC San Diego 14th among the world’s universities. Through our global leadership, we can bring diverse people, regions and cultures together to forge global solutions. Gifts from alumni, parents and friends play an important role in keeping UCSD at the forefront of academic excellence, helping to forge common connections, research new possibilities and support change initiatives.
