The Campaign for UCSD: Imagine What's Next

$1 Billion Fundraising Campaign 2000-2007

It certainly was ambitious. Our consultants said it couldn’t be done. But on June 30, 2007, seven years after its start, UC San Diego reached its $1 billion campaign fundraising goal and in fact, exceeded it by $30 million.

More than 100,000 donors gave to ensure educational opportunity and enrich student life, support outstanding faculty, advance academic excellence, improve lives through research and healthcare launch inventive programs and strengthen innovation funds to meet the university’s highest priority needs. Our generous supporters gave because they cared about the future of UC San Diego.

Now, at the completion of this amazing accomplishment, the university can move forward with initiatives that will encompass pragmatic growth—exemplified by the expansion and upgrade of medical centers—as well as significant interdisciplinary efforts such as environmental sustainability, climate change and biomedical engineering.
