By designating gifts for student support, donors give deserving young adults the chance to pursue their aspirations and dreams.

A Dream Her Parents Could Never Envision
Private support made it possible for students like Sarahi Loya to receive scholarships. Due to financial difficulties, her parents were only able to attain a sixth grade education in Mexico. Loya knew they could not afford to pay for college. In spite of this hurdle, she applied to UC San Diego and was an Amylin Scholar and recipient of the Hispanic Scholarship Council Scholarship.

“Scholarships funded by donors have changed the lives of many students, including me,” said Loya, who graduated in June. “Now I am on my way to a dream my parents could never envision – I am applying to medical school.”

WebMD Health Foundation Funds Fellowship at UC San Diego Student Run Clinic
With the support of a two-year $240,000 fellowship grant from WebMD Health Foundation, new physicians at UC San Diego's Student-Run Free Clinic Project are treating the underserved of San Diego.  The grant funds physician training in high quality outpatient healthcare for the working poor, homeless and others without access to healthcare.

"I first worked at the clinic as a UCSD medical student," said Michelle Johnson, M.D., a WebMD fellow.  "Now as a physician, I look forward to being a listener, healer and teacher."

Founded by Ellen Beck, M.D., the Student-Run Free Clinic Project is a 10-year-old university/community partnership of volunteers led by students at the UC San Diego School of Medicine who provide healthcare and social services at three separate clinics each week.
